Gino is a 5 year old golden retriever whose life changed when he was diagnosed as having a stage 2 oral malignant melanoma. The tumour was removed at the end of January 2016 by the local vet who then referred Gino for further oral surgery, lymph node removal as well as head and chest CT to identify metastasis.  The lymph nodes and CT scans all looked clear although this type of cancer is likely to spread.  Gino in himself is as happy as can be, with a very waggy tail, eating well and the usual energy levels. Gino has been started on a course of ONCEPT  Canine Melanoma Vaccine. I understand that ONCEPT is a relatively new treatment and at the moment we are not sure of the success rate.  But one huge positive is that Gino will not suffer as a result of having the vaccine, even if the cancer isn't spreading.  I am remaining positive for Gino as he is so young but i feel almost frustrated from not knowing if he has or hasn't got cancer and if he has, how long will he have.  We were told that if the cancer was spreading and he didn't start the vaccine treatment, he could have as little as 5-6 months to live, news I was devastated by
