A message from your Chief Executive

What a glorious spell of weather we have just enjoyed although I hear it is soon going to return to more normal conditions - which I assume means rain is on the way!

We are now planning the venues for the Take the Lead sponsored dog walks to be held over the weekend of 4th and 5th October this year.  It looks as if there will quite a few more dog walks taking place around the country.  Once again we are indebted to Royal Canin for their support.  The venues will be published soon in the 'Support Us' section.

The Trust has recently been providing a number of training events for the British Veterinary Nursing Association around the UK.  Also joining in have been groomers who are members of the Pet Care Trust.  The evenings have proved popular and we are delighted to be able to work closely with both these organisations.   We greatly value all veterinary nurses and groomers who are very much in the front line and are often the first to spot lumps and other problems in cats and dogs.

Thank you to everyone helping to sell raffle tickets.  We have just over a month before tickets need to be returned to our office in Peterborough.

I mentioned in my last message that we have appointed a specialist to expand the technical side of our website.   The good news is that we have made a successful application for a grant from the Kennel Club Charitable Trust which will fund all costs involved with the development of the website. 

The first travel grants that we awarded in 2007 to the veterinary universities have been used and reports from two of the recipients (Liverpool and Glasgow Universities) are included under the ‘Research’ pages in the website.  Other recipients will also be submitting their reports in due course.  These grants will hopefully assist our next generation of specialists in veterinary cancer care.
